Camp Alaflo is proud to offer the Scuba Merit Badge through our partner vendor Anchors Away Scuba.

Scouts and Scouters (14 year old and up) have the opportunity to earn SDI Open Water Scuba certification through three easy Steps:

  1. Elearning (completed prior to arriving at Camp Alaflo)
  2. Pool Training
  3. Open Water evaluation

Start your SDI Open Water Scuba Diver course and master all the important academic information online. You can complete this phase through self-study, at your own pace, in the convenience of your home.  All eLearning courses work on mobile and tablet devices too. Elearning MUST be completed prior to arriving at Camp Alaflo. Internet service is inconsisent and there wilil be no time to complete the Elearning prior to the first pool session.

Pool Training:

For entry-level certification courses (as well as some continuing-education classes), the next step will be to complete your in-water skill-development training. This takes place in a swimming pool or similar body of confined water, under the supervision of an SDI Instructor. Pool training will begin Monday morning. Our agency standards required the Elearning to be complete prior to pool training. Anyone not complete will NOT be able participate and there will NOT be a refund.

Open Water Evaluation:

The final step is to complete the required number of SDI open-water training dives under the supervision of your SDI Instructor. Here you will apply what you have learned during your academic and skill-development sessions, while learning practical lessons that can only be gained through real-world experience in open water.

Final thought on Certification:

Your Scout MUST demonstrate MASTERY of the skills taught in order to complete the certification. If a Scout is NOT able to complete training during the week, they will have 1 year to complete it before the agency considers the training expired. Anchors Away will schedule additional training times outside of Camp, if needed, at no addiontional training fee (park fees not included) based on their class availibility.

Required paper work must be emailed to no later than 6/15/21:
